EPISODE: A Podcast with ChaChi Gallo ChaChi Gallo, Vice President of Information Technology at Michels Corporation, explains how digital job sites depend on strong connectivity, data access, and reliable infrastructure to operate efficiently. He shares how building a strong data foundation enables AI, automation, and faster decision-making across construction operations. He highlights how IT must align closely with operational teams to enable innovation and scalability. His insights reveal why connectivity and intelligent infrastructure are essential for the future of construction.
Full Episode “I purposely use the phrases, ‘constructing intelligence,’ and ‘data foundation,’ because I have to help them understand why we are doing the things we do through the use of analogies with construction. You have to go through cyber and risk to make sure that this product is okay for us to use. We have to do the same checks and balances that we do for our customers.”
5 (0:00) Highlights Video

(3:14) Why 70% of AI Deployments Fail Without Data “Data foundation is so important. We found in manufacturing that some of the data sources used to build these things were not always reliable or appropriate for training the model. You are better off with that static, well-understood gold source of truth data, and then you train it as you go on what you need the business rules to be.”
(2:53) How Data Strategy Drives Smarter Construction Decisions “Getting that strategy in place to get the global platforms in place, and the data enablement that is constructing intelligence structured in the framework there, will help them know that the information they're getting on the other side is secure. That's why that focus has to go that way, and that's why data is so important to organizations now.”
8 (4:17) Balancing Automation Innovation with Safety and Human Supervision “It's going to be this fine balance that’s nothing safer than a zero-man job site, or only the equipment at risk. How do you get to that point while keeping the human safe? You're slowly working toward the path of having a construction worker in a tower operate that equipment, rather than actually being in the machine itself. Those are the kind of things where I see it going into the future in construction.”
(4:09) How AI Improves Network Operations Without Replacing IT “I'm not too quick to run into the autonomous side and take the human out of the loop. I just want to make humans more productive and get to the answer or the data quicker, so they can do their gut check with another data point. AI should be augmenting us, not working for us. It should think like us, not think for us.”
(4:33) Improving Digital Job Construction Site Through Satellite Connectivity “Wireless carriers give us more freedom. Sometimes you're contained by the carrier in your area, so in some cases, there's literally nothing out there, not even cellular, because we're building the network that's bringing it out to that area. That satellite internet connectivity is definitely the future that is going to help a lot.”
11 (2:36) How Strong Leadership Improves IT Team Performance “Technology is actually easy. It's the people who are hard. So, we really have to focus on those relationships by getting out there. You've got to get out there, not only with your own people, but make sure you're talking to more than just your direct leadership.”
